Biochar is a high carbon content material resembling charcoal, created by converting biodegradable biomass into a stable amendment for soil. This highly porous substance provides several significant benefits: it enhances soil fertility, improves water retention, and promotes robust plant growth.
Our Biochar is produced through pyrolysis, a process that heats organic materials like agricultural waste or wood chips in an environment with little to no oxygen. This method preserves carbon and essential nutrients, resulting in a lasting soil amendment.
When added to your garden or agricultural fields, Biochar functions like a sponge. It absorbs and retains moisture, preventing nutrient leaching and reducing water usage. This exceptional water-holding ability keeps your plants hydrated, even during periods of drought, leading to healthier and more resilient crops.
Additionally, the porous structure of Biochar creates an ideal environment for beneficial microorganisms. This large surface area allows these microbes to thrive and form symbiotic relationships with plant roots. They aid in nutrient cycling, break down organic matter, and improve soil structure, which enhances nutrient availability and aeration.

Experience the benefits that Biochar can bring to your garden or farm. Start nourishing your soil today with our premium-grade Biochar and observe the positive changes in your plants and crops.
- Note: Activated, inoculated and charged Biochar mean the same thing. It’s all activated and ready for use.
- Uncharged Biochar will charge itself when added to the soil, however this means the Biochar takes nutrients from your soil to charge itself. This takes anywhere from 2-6 weeks to achieve this and may leave soil depleted until rejuvenated again.
- How to charge Biochar: Charge the biochar with nutrients by soaking it in a nutrient-rich solution like worm castings, composts or compost teas before application. Let sit, mixing periodically for 2-6 weeks and keep moist. This will enhance the fertility and effectiveness of the biochar.
- New beds: Use our pre inoculated Biochar, or inoculate with your own recipe (if making your own, let sit for at least 2 weeks, then use) and mix at a rate of 5-10% of total volume is recommended. Start with a lower ratio and gradually increase if necessary. Do not exceed 20% total soil volume
- Established beds: Top dress 1/4” – 1/2” evenly over the soil surface and lightly til into top 3” of soil using a garden rake. Water thoroughly.
- Reapply as needed: The effects of biochar can last for several years, but it may need to be reapplied periodically depending on the soil conditions and plant requirements. If you are using a no-till gardening approach, it is beneficial to add Biochar each time you add layers to the soil (while maintaining a 5%-10% ratio anytime material is added). Monitor the soil and plant health to determine if reapplication is necessary.

But what sets our Red Wiggler Composting Worms apart from the rest? It’s their ability to generate top-quality compost, known as “black gold.” We take great pride in the diet we offer our worms to grow them strong and healthy.
Our feed routine typically contains a balanced blend of ingredients such as vegetable scraps, fruit waste, manure, and multiple supplements. It ensures that worms receive a consistent and well-rounded diet, promoting their overall health and aiding in their digestion and decomposition processes.
Their digestive process breaks down organic matter into fine worm castings, which are packed with beneficial microorganisms, enzymes, and essential nutrients that enrich the soil.
This nutrient-dense compost enhances plant growth, boosts soil fertility, and improves overall soil structure, leading to healthier plants and bountiful harvests. Each order comes with a carefully curated guide, providing you with all the necessary information to successfully start and maintain your composting journey.
- 1. Setting Up the Worm Bin: Ensure your worm bin has drainage holes and ventilation. Location: Place your worm farm in a cool, dark place (ideally between 12°C 25°C). Avoid direct sunlight or extreme temperature fluctuations.
- 2. Creating Bedding: Worms need a comfortable habitat that is moist but not saturated. Bedding Material: Shredded cardboard, coconut coir, egg cartons, brown bags, or leaves work well. Make sure the materials are moistened and shredded into small pieces. Layering: Add 6-8 inches of bedding to the bin. Worms will burrow into this, providing them with a cozy environment.
- 3. Feeding Your Worms: Your worms will thrive on a balanced diet, but be mindful of what you feed them. Worms enjoy kitchen scraps like fruit and vegetable peels (excluding citrus), coffee grounds, crushed eggshells, and small amounts of grains. Avoid meat, fish, dairy, and oily foods to prevent odors and pests. Feed your worms every 3-7 days. Start by adding small amounts and gradually increasing as you observe how quickly they consume it. Bury the food scraps in the bedding to minimize odors and pests.
- 4. Moisture Management: Worms need moisture, but too much can drown them. Check Moisture Levels: The bedding should be as moist as a wrung-out sponge. If it feels too wet, add dry bedding; if it’s too dry, mist it lightly with water. Drainage: Ensure your bin has proper drainage to prevent waterlogging, which can lead to anaerobic conditions.
- 5. Aeration: Aerate the bedding occasionally by gently mixing periodically. Avoid compacting the bedding materials.
- 6. Monitoring for Pests and Problems: Keeping an eye on your worm farm helps you catch problems early. If you notice a foul odour, reduce feeding and add dry bedding to correct the problem. Common Pests: Fruit flies and other insects can be a problem. To control them, keep the bin covered, avoid overfeeding, and ensure all food is buried. Signs of over feeding: If you notice a foul odor, you may be overfeeding. Reduce the amount and add more bedding.
- 7. Harvesting Worm Castings: Eventually, your worms will produce nutrient-rich compost—called worm castings—ready for use. Harvesting Process: After 2-3 months, you can harvest castings. Feed worms on one side of the bin for several feedings or move them to a new bin. Collect the castings from the other side. Using Castings: You can apply worm castings directly to your soil, mix them with potting soil, or make "tea" by steeping castings in water for a liquid fertilizer.
- 8. Repopulating: You can move worms back into fresh bedding or share them with friends and family to start new farms. Regularly check for any that may have been left behind.
With proper care and attention, your worm farm can thrive, providing a sustainable source of compost and fostering a vibrant ecosystem. Enjoy the process of watching your worms convert organic matter into rich nourishment for your plants. Happy worm farming!
Our nutrient-rich castings are the result of a meticulous process where earthworms transform organic matter into a powerful fertilizer that will revolutionize your plant growth.
Our Worm Castings are teeming with beneficial microorganisms, enzymes, and nutrients that are essential for healthy plant development. Packed with nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, commonly referred to as NPK, these castings provide a well-balanced nutritional profile to support robust growth and vibrant foliage.
One of the key advantages of our Worm Castings is their ability to improve soil structure. They act as a natural soil conditioner, enhancing water retention, promoting aeration, and reducing soil compaction. This ensures optimal root development, allowing plants to access nutrients and water more efficiently.
In addition to their NPK content, our Worm Castings contain a plethora of trace minerals and growth-promoting substances that are often lacking in conventional fertilizers. These micronutrients are essential for plant health and play a crucial role in various metabolic processes, resulting in improved overall plant vitality.

Worm castings can be applied directly to the soil or mixed with potting soil, compost, or other growing mediums or made into compost teas. The application rate varies based on the specific needs of your plants. Here’s our recommendation:
- Seedlings: Add 5-10% to total seedling mixture.
- New beds: Add 10-20% of total soil and mix well.
- Established beds: Top dress by sprinkling the worm castings evenly over the soil surface and lightly till in. Water the treated area thoroughly to help the castings integrate into the soil and activate the beneficial microbial activity.

- Worm tea/ foliar spray: Mix 1 part worm castings with 10 parts water and let it sit for 24 hours, aerating periodically. Strain the mixture with cheesecloth or pillow case to remove any large particles. Apply as a soil drench or spray the solution onto the leaves of your plants, making sure to thoroughly coat both the tops and bottoms of the leaves. Repeat this process every 2-4 weeks for best results.
